Breathe in..... breathe out..... breathe in..... breathe out.....
I can rest easy now. The movie didn't disappoint. On second thought, it did. I didn't want it to end. 2 1/2 hours seem to just flyby.
The movie was awesome, so awesome that even Ryan gave it a thumbs up when all his other opinions are usually "I dunno" with a shrug of the shoulders. Me, I'm giving it 2 thumbs up!
The audience was well-behaved. There was a group of Indian guys who were speaking loudly and that irritated the shit out of me - I thought "there goes me wanting to watch the movie in peace". Luckily, it was dead silence when the opening scenes came up.
This movie is different from "Batman Begins". Its darker, its more violent. Batman is brutal in his methods. The way he dropped a mob boss from a balcony several stories up in the air. And the way the audience reacted when the guy hit the pavement legs first, followed by the crunching sound of broken bones.
There were also several other scenes were the audience either:
a) laughed out loud and these were mainly Joker scenes
b) cringed when there was pain inflicted to someone either by Batman or The Joker
Christian Bale as Batman seemed permanently pissed in the movie. I suppose that The Joker had pushed all the right buttons to get him so worked up. You see Batman having to resist the urge to kill Joker in several scenes.
Batman still kicks ass in the movie. His one rule is that he will not kill and Joker almost makes him break that rule. However, just like in some of the comics, Batman has no problem using enough force to stop his opponents without killing them. Breaking bones amongst other attacks. He's an intelligent man, a strategist.
Heath Ledger was unbelievable as The Joker. I found myself waiting for the next time he would appear on screen, just to see what the maniac is capable of.
The Joker taunts Batman throughout the entire movie and when Batman finally loses it and kicks The Joker's ass. The Joker is thrown around like a rag doll and he just takes the beating while laughing maniacally.
Heath was like a chameleon. His facial expressions, his voice, his body language - the complete package. I think he was perfect for the role. Some people comment that there's no Heath Ledger in this movie. It was THE JOKER. Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor? Who knows. I'm not sure how the nominations are based. But we'll see.
The other stars like Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and the rest of them were great too. And the Batpod is so cool, it makes me want to buy the toys as well!
At the end of the movie, Commissioner Gordon replies, when his son asks, "Why is he (Batman) running away?". This might be abit of a spoiler:
The movie has already broken some box-office records for midnight screenings.
Because he's the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a Dark Knight...
A quote from an article:
And another:
The opening day grosses for "The Dark Knight" far exceeded the full weekend haul of its predecessor, "Batman Begins," which took in $48.7 million in its first three days in 2005.
Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight has earned $155.34 million to top Spider-Man 3 for best opening weekend at the box office.
Found this photo of a really cool magazine cover: TOTALFILM. Looks like its embossed with foil and its kickass!
So, what's next now that I've seen "The Dark Knight"?
Christian Bale is starring as John Connor in "Terminator 4: Salvation". Might check that out, in the meantime, here's a photo.
